A small studio, by design.

Ann Ledger founded her full-service architectural studio in 1992 to design custom houses in traditional styles: renovations and additions for older homes across Philadelphia’s western suburbs, and distinctive new homes built to last.

Clients work with Ann herself. She leads each project, listens closely to how the household lives, and develops the design and the complete, hand-detailed drawings that builders work from.

Renovations and seamless additions

For older homes worth keeping. The aim is an addition you can’t pick out from the street: existing character and detail preserved, new work built in the same authentic materials, and a plan that finally works for how you live.

Distinctive new homes

Custom houses in traditional styles, sited for light, views and the land around them. Each one is drawn for its family and its setting, from a creekside Shingle Style house to a home rising from an old barn’s stone walls.

Selected houses

New homes beside French Creek and in Rose Valley, and careful renovations of older houses across the Main Line.

How Ann works

“I offer personalized attention and principal involvement in each project.”
Ann Ledger
  • Listening first

Every design starts from the priorities and requests of the people who will live in it.

  • Character kept

Existing architectural detail is preserved, and new work is made to belong to the old.

  • Authentic materials

High-quality, genuine materials that enhance the house and hold its value.

  • Light, views and setting

Rooms arranged for daylight, outlook and their context, with sustainable principles built in.

  • Budget and schedule in mind

Design decisions are made with cost and timing in view, not discovered later.

  • Complete, accurate documents

Handcrafted drawings detailed enough for builders to price and build with confidence.

A trusted team around each house

Ann welcomes interior and landscape designers into the process, relies on her civil and structural engineering consultants, and works closely with selected builders who share her commitment to traditional detailing and lasting client relationships.
